BACKGROUND

We are a low-profile, value-oriented holding vehicle modeled after Berkshire Hathaway. The founders/investment team is comprised of value investors from Apollo Global Management (~$80bn private equity group) and Viking Global Investors (~$50bn hedge fund). We have various portfolio companies or ‘platforms’ (also known as rollups, aggregations, or buy-and-builds). Each platform is capitalized with a long-term equity base and has the sole mandate of compounding cash flows for the long term, primarily through M&A. We have a broad mandate and look for opportunities across industries, geographies and the capital structure, although our primary focus is on rollups.

We are seeking a full-time General Manager to be the day-to-day operational leader of NYC’s locksmith and access control company (~75 employees, ~40) service vehicles). The General Manager will report to the COO of the Badlands Security Company, a sub-holdco focused on Locksmith & Access Control businesses. We are building the leading commercial services business in the Northeast through targeted acquisitions and operational excellence. This is a hands-on management role ensuring smooth operations across multiple divisions, managing department heads, building and executing on KPIs, and executing growth strategies.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

An initial preview of the responsibilities & tasks are as follows (there will be more, but this will give you a general sense of the roles & responsibilities):

• Field Operations & Dispatch
• Own end-to-end field operations across all 5 NYC boroughs; drive technician productivity, utilization, and job throughput (~50 total); oversee dispatch function (4 service managers) – job scheduling, truck deployment, backlog management; identify and eliminate operational inefficiencies across service delivery
• Workforce Management
• Manage dispatchers and department heads; own field workforce performance – accountability, discipline, retention; partner with dispatchers on technician hiring and onboarding; build a performance-oriented field culture without disrupting a stable, long-tenured workforce
• Technology & Systems
• Build reporting and dashboards to provide management visibility into job-level profitability, technician productivity, and customer performance; Lead migration from legacy field service management platform to modern, cloud-based solution; Identify and close other operational technology gaps
• Customer & Account Management
• Assume operational responsibility for key customer relationships; Maintain highest levels of service quality and responsiveness across ~900 property manager and landlord accounts
• Estimating & Pricing
• Oversee estimating function – ensure quote accuracy, margin discipline, and pricing consistency; implement pricing governance with clear approval thresholds; identify where the business is leaving money on the table
• Vendor Management
• Own day-to-day vendor relationships across key suppliers; understand and protect preferential purchasing terms
• Financial
• Drive margin improvement through operational efficiency and capacity expansion; support AR collections process – ensure service managers and field operations enable fast and efficient billing and collections
• Growth
• Identify organic growth opportunities (e.g., capacity, service line expansion, geographic coverage); support platform M&A integration and cross-selling as Badlands acquires additional businesses

YOUR BACKGROUND MIGHT LOOK LIKE

• 10+ years field service operations experience – security, access control, HVAC, facilities, or adjacent trade services
• Proven track record running a field workforce of similar scale and complexity
• Hands-on operator – comfortable in the field, credible with technicians
• Experience with field service management platforms – ServiceTitan familiarity a strong plus
• NYC market experience preferred
• “Roll-up your sleeves” approach
• PE-backed or high-growth environment experience a plus
• Fluency or working proficiency in Spanish preferred but not required

COMPENSATION STRUCTURE 

• Base salary of $200,000 
• Bonus of up to 30% of salary based on specific performance KPI metrics such as revenue growth, total technician hours, utilization
